The Toastmasters Cricket Tournament 2012

42 Teams had taken part in this cricket tournament which had shown the growth of Toastmasters in Sri Lanka.

Ralph TM had put in one solid team lead by TM Chathura. Ralph won the first round against Millennium Toastmasters where Kapila and Kasun saw that the latter part of the overs were used to hammer in boundaries and sixers.

Later, Ralph as usual got into it's famed spirits enjoying the evening. Taking into consideration that the youngsters were being baked in the hot sun, Ralph had given into Suntel amidst a good fight to head back home early.

Pictures are attached of the Ralph members enjoying the event.

Meeting 02 Year 04 - Brief Minutes

The meeting started on time with quite a packed crowd consisting Lt Gov Mkt Saleem, Governor Mahesh, PD Secr Kapila, Dist Treasurer Saman and Fun night Chair Premelal.

No sooner the meeting was called to order and National Anthem Sung with Gusto by the large gathering of 26 members, IPDG Balraj walked in and joined us.

The President Saman, recognised the guests and congratulated the three new comers namely Mahesh, Jude and Indiwary with a lovely bouqet of flowers.

Saman proceeded to request the guests to introduce themselves. The guests followed suit:
  • Benjamin: An optometrist who was brought in by Karthik and Niroshan.
  • Nalinda: A person who is assisting Premelal at Prime lands.

Saman while thanking the guests had indicated that this year, shall be looking into creating quality meetings in contrast to all earlier meetings. This meeting was a witness to the same.

Saman introduced the Toastmaster Karthik, who started to roll the ball for the day.

Karthik called the General Evaluator Saleem, who in turn introduced his team namely:
Timer - Jude
Ah Counter - Indiwary
Grammarian - Niroshan

Each role player introduced informed the members of the role that they play.
The Grammarian had announced that the word for the day was "Outrageous".

The General Evaluator, on thanking the Toastmaster had taken his seat very satisfied that finally after so many years of being Charter president Chandana's neighbour, this was the first time that Ralph had invited him. The whole club joined him in immediate laughter..!

Karthik then introduced the Round Robin Master Nalin, who took over and explained the Round Robin rules as well as giving out a topic which is talked about today - "The Recession".

The session proceeded very well with the word of the day being used so many a time. By this time, with a packed audience, the meeting was slowing down. We were behind schedule by 8 mins.

The Round Robin master thanked the members and the toastmaster for a fabulous round robin and handed the session back to the Toastmaster.

Karthik then moved into the Prepared Speech session and introduced the first speaker, CC CL Mahesh Jayasinghe. He further requested Mahesh's evaluator Saleem to offer the objectives of the speech.

Saleem, walked front and immediately apologised for not being able to introduce the Table Topics evaluator - Ishani Jayasinghe. He then proceeded to introduce Ishani and then offered the objectives of Mahesh's Entertainment manual speech.

The Toastmaster called on for Mahesh's entertainment speech.

On completion of Mahesh's speech Karthik introduced the next speaker ACB CL Premelal Brahammanage and called on for CC CL Kapila Bandara to read out the objectives of Premelal's ACS5 speech, which Kapila duly did.

Karthik then requested Premelal to "Make his Sale"

Premelal spoke on his own product, which is set of 80 plots of land. The speech proceeded for around 12 minutes where Premelal was able to immediately grab a sale with one plot valuing six hundred thousand rupees.

On completion of the prepared speech session the Toastmaster called upon the Table topics master Hakeem to conduct the Table topics session and handed control over to Hakeem which Hakeem duly accepted.

Hakeem then proceeded to explain the 4 cartoons which the members had to speak on, which was quite an innovative idea. It was at this time that Royston, walked into the meeting.

The following persons spoke on their preferred topics:
  1. Mahesh - Sri Lankan News
  2. Sesiri - Celebrating victory
  3. Niroshan - Sri Lankan News
  4. Shantha - State of our hospitals
On conclusion Hakeem thanked the members while requesting not to vote due to less number of participants and handed control back to the Toastmaster.

Karthik thanked Hakeem for a great job and called upon the General Evaluator to handle his evaluations.

The General Evaluator first called the Timer Jude for his reports and then requested Ah counter Indiwary for hers. Then he requested Kapila to evaluate Premelal's Speech which was duly done. then the General Evaluaotor being the speecha evaluator as well, evaluated Mahesh's Speech.
Saleem then called upon Ishani to evaluate the Table topics which she did so with great exhuberance. The Speakers were happy to hear such an indepth evaluation. The General evaluator thanked every one and took his seat.

Karthik got up and started to thak every one while he was a bit worried with an expression from one specific member of the club. Immediately the toastmaster catching his mistake, apologised and requested the General evaluator to request for the Grammarians report. Saleem immediately got up and being a seasoned toastmaster apologised for his mistake and called upon the Grammarian Niroshan who gave another in depth report with certain corrections that were to be followed.

The General Evaluator thanked the Toastmaster, who in return thanked all the role players and handed control back to the President with a 6 minute delay in timing.

The president, called for the General Evaluation. The evluator thanked for the great opportunity and mentioned only one correction, which is to avoide new comers to take up the Ah counter and timer roles.

The president commented on the Installation on 1st August as well as the importance of CL with the assistance of Governor Mahesh.

The president finally adjourned the meeting 22 minutes late at 1952hrs.
